'A R Rahman: The Spirit of Music' by Nasreen Munni Kabir was launched on 6th April, 2011. The book published by Om Books International provides a fascinating window into the world of the great artist. Rahman's intelligence, honesty and unpretentiousness shine through as he talks about his life and his world of music.
Nasreen Munni Kabir, is a renowned film historian, who has made over 80 documentaries on Indian cinema for Channel 4 TV, U.K.
The book is a combination of different meetings and video conferences between Rahman and the author.
As Rahman says, "The book is a process of my life. I thought it's the right time to say certain things which might inspire other people when they know about the path I went along, the odds I faced and overcoming of them. I had a good writer Munni (Nasreen) who has made the book readable for people."
Nasreen Munni Kabir provides rare insights into Rahman's private life and his music. There are extensive details provided on topics around spirituality and Rahman's core thought process of composing music. In fact these are the points where Rahman really opens up and hence justifies the book's title 'The Spirit of Music' too. One can clearly see how deeply religious Rahman is and how deep rooted is his belief in purity of music.
The book was launched by renowned film maker and producer Mani Ratnam.

As AR Rahman puts it .....The idea of life is...there's a wall and if you give up, that brings you to a dead end. If I would have given up hope, I would have missed all that are happening in my life now. Through the book, I want people to know that something extraordinary exists beyond the wall.
