Flatter Your Body Type with the right clothes!

Nobody has a perfect body. Believe me! What may look good on that neighbor may not look good on you. The fashions displayed by stick thin models on runways are strictly for women who are several sizes smaller than average women. Even those who are always in front of the cameras, they know a secret. And that secret is to wear things that are comfortable to your body.

So lets face it, there is no rule that says we cannot wear clothes that are not fashionable. But yes, do take care and chose styles and cuts that enhance the assets.

The Skinny Type: Even the skinny ones are not the most happy body types. They are thin, angular and yes without much curves. This is possible by layering to create a curvaceous looks. Pair vests over tops or dresses over trousers. Dresses with details like ruffles, pleats and gathers help create bulk to the body side from layering, wearing clothes with extra details like ruffles, pleats and gathers to add just that extra hint of bulk to the body to create that curvier illusion.

The top-heavy type: Incorporating dark tops, preferably in single colors/ prints and necklines that help to elongate and slenderize your neck such as V-necks, scoop, wrap or sweetheart; and pairing them with light colored trousers or pencil skirts would help accentuate the lower half. Keep the collars or lapels of jacket narrow. The trick here is to create a sense of balance by diverting attention from upper body. Avoid halter necks and baggy tops at any cost. Remember you have legs and slender hips that most women could die for.

The bottom-heavy type: Your narrow build on top and a curvy body can best carry off light colored cleavage enhancing tops that are fitted but flare over your hips. Strictly avoid wearing pants that have any cuff or any detail on the bottom. Dark colored skirts or pants that are slightly tapered below the hemline would balance things for you. Your upper body is the best features so enhance it with necklaces, earrings and chains around the neck.

The long and lanky type: These are generally taller and the problem lies in creating curves. Quite similar to skinny types, they have slightly more flesh. Stick to layered look, wide skirts/pants with wide legs. Putting belt over shirt and wearing it below hips could also help. Strictly avoid shirts/tops with low cut tops. Try longer suit jackets and shirts with necklines that fall below collarbone.

The petite type: You already have gone through the mayhem of finding the right fit. Always go for stuff that fits you well. You don’t want long sleeves or tops. Let the tops fall at waist and have your pants hemmed up. Clothes with seaming at waist would suit you well. Show off your legs. Wear skirts that are above the knee. Calf length or ankle length, large prints would make you look shorter. A bold belt would create just the right look for your waist.

The Curvy Type: Chiffons, wrap arounds, blouses, long skirts are all for you. You have it, so flaunt it! A fitted jacket, pinstriped pants will elongate your line. Skirts that fan out, empire line shoulders, scoop necks, dark colors and loads of cuts are all to flatter your figure.

Whatever body types you may be, always remember you are unique and really, looks aren't everything! It’s important to live life so be that fresh air of happiness, healthy self- confidence no matter what you wear.
